Our Values and Understandings
Our work is underpinned by a set of clear values and understandings.
- trust-based relationships: relationships with clients are ultimately based on trust. No formal agreement can fully anticipate changes that may occur over the duration of a contract. Our aim is to deliver the substantive purpose of a contract by responding positively to changing circumstances over time subject always, of course, to agreement with the client.
- sceptical friend: we act as a ‘sceptical friend’ to our clients, bringing an independent and questioning perspective to organisational assumptions.
- generalists: our claim is that we are good generalists bringing to a range of commissions within specialist areas a spirit of curiosity and enquiry, sharply honed analytical skills, a good deal of experience of working with organisations large and small across sectors, a capacity to provoke dialogue, upon which we depend, and a history of sound judgement.
- sensitive and astute: we pride ourselves on being sensitive to the often competing pressures and influences that need to be taken into account when undertaking commissions.
- change is inevitable: governance and management always concerns the direction or development of a changing situation. An organisation that denies the reality of change, or seeks to remain static, is suffering decline.
The consultant's role is not to provide easy answers. Our purpose is to provoke an understanding of problems and stimulate the discovery of solutions from within the organisation itself: something created by and for the people involved.
